Motivate Me
There are only 2 ways to be motivated: to be drawn toward something or driven away from something.
I think both are effective. I think most people prefer to be drawn toward something. I think some of the most productive motivation is to be driven away from something.
For example…
You start exercising. Because you want to be healthy? Or because you’re afraid of looking like you’ve overinflated? You start dating someone. Because you’re looking for the right person? Or you’re afraid of being alone. You work late one night. Because you’re committed to finishing a project? Or you’re afraid you’ll miss a deadline? You get the picture.
Here’s the problem. Most people don’t take the time to identify which is motivating them in different areas of life. It’s incredible…most of us have the ability to identify which category we fall into, determine whether it’s healthy or not (if we’re honest with ourselves) and make a change if necessary. The problem really is, most people simply don’t stop to self-evaluate.
That’s my challenge to you. Evaluate your circumstances and identify what motivates you. And then ask yourself if that’s what you’re going for. If it’s not…do something about it.
